Whenever I travel I am always wondering what I am missing in different parts of the world. It’s sometimes hard to find the little hidden gems but this little hidden gem won’t steer you wrong. Le Chef is owned and operated by Eduardo for over 13 years now. He started Le Chef after hurricane Wilma came and destroyed Cozumel. He originally had a gourmet deli, but Wilma had a different path for him. After they were able to come out of hiding after 3-long days from Wilma throwing her anger on the island, Eduardo was met with his deli destroyed. Having no electricity Eduardo had to come up with creative ways to utilize the food he had in his fridge before they all spoiled. This is how the LBS was born. Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of other items on their menu that will have anyone wanting to come back for more. For me, I didn’t even know a menu existed here. I was told of this amazing sandwich by a mutual friend and only went there for this sandwich for over 3 years before I tried anything else on the menu. Eduardo won’t tell us the secret to his great sandwich, but if you ask anyone who’s had it they will tell ya “it’s the best.” Hence, why they are now famous for their Lobster and Bacon sandwich (LBS). This grilled lobster is smothered in their secret sauce, throw in some Mexican cheese, add bacon and slap some marble rye bread and a slice of dark bread and the magic melts in your mouth. This sandwich is pretty rich, but I’d eat the whole thing just because you don’t know when you will be back to have another amazing sandwich. It is served with fries however feel free to ask them to substitute them for a side salad. They are running a new special for a half sandwich with fries and a cup of their tasty lobster bisque with a soda or wine. This will give you a chance to indulge without feeling completely guilty from the calories you are taking on. Just as a reminder,, calories don’t count while you eat this sandwich because you won’t find it anywhere else in the world. Lol!. So, do yourself a favor and allow yourself to come and try this amazing sandwich. Be sure to ask for some of their home-made salsa to dribble on the sandwich to add some spice to your life.
I then went on a tortilla soup hunt of the island. I found myself ordering here after trying 3 other places and realized this too was an amazing feast at Le Chef. Savoring tomato-based broth with chunks of chicken, sliced guajillo peppers, avocado, sour cream, and toss in the strips of chips and you have a great appetizer or a full meal for some. It will have you wanting to come back for more.
My next favorite item is the Al AJillo Calamari. Their calamari is cooked with garlic and olive oil. In the end, they toss in the guajillo peppers to give it a little zest of these amazing peppers. They are served with pita stripes.
Be sure to ask them about their fresh catch of the day. They can serve it up with butter and garlic, Al Ajillo (my fav), covered in lobster sauce, or Calabrese. This comes with rice and mixed veggies.
Some other must try are the Tuna Tare-tare, Chicken Caesar Pizza ( I know my thought too, but trust me its good), and the Madrazo Arrachera to name a few. I love it all, but I am a food lover and find every time I come here I need to think clearly on which of these fabulous foods I want today. But don’t take my word for it come and visit and let us know what you think.
Hope to see you in Cozumel, Mexico soon!
